This week, Oprah did her Holiday 2007 Oprah's Favorite Things show in Macon, Georgia.  As always, it was an hour of screaming, tears and capitalism in action.  Oprah is an amazing force in the holiday gift scene, as everything she chooses becomes an instant best seller.  We've taken our favorites from her show, and made a list for you guys to choose from.

	Toy Watch - These are the coolest new watches on the market, and your wife has no doubt heard about some celebrity wearing them!
	UGG Classic Crochet Tall Boots - Made from the same company as the famous boots, these are made from sweater material.  She'll love them.
	United Artists 90th Anniversary Prestige Collection - A collection of 90 of their best movies of all time.  Includes many Academy Award winners.
	Samsung SC-HMX10 Camcorder - This all digital camcorder stores videos on its internal hard drive, ready for you to download directly to your computer.  It's very small and convenient to carry.
	Kai Body Butter - They made this signature scent just for Oprah.  We haven't used it, but it sounds like a good luxury that she would appreciate.
	Premier Scrabble Game, Luxury Edition - We don't like how games and game boards have gotten cheap and flimsy over the years.  Here's a high quality alternative if she likes games or Scrabble.

Gift Theme: Dinner and a Movie

Here’s a gift strategy that’s sure to score you some serious points with her – themed gifts.  She wants to believe that you didn’t just pick up her gift at the last minute on the way home, that you put a lot of thought and creativity into it.  This strategy screams creativity!  Here’s an example:

Theme:  “Dinner and a Movie”

Gift Ideas:
Here are some of the gifts for her you could include in this theme.  You don’t have to get everything, just 2 or three gifts will make it look like you have a plan.

	Omaha Steaks Filet Mignon meal - so she doesn't have to plan dinner; you need to offer to cook!

	Blockbuster Total Access subscription - do this in advance, so you actually have a movie to watch, or pick one up on the way home and just give her the subscription, or...

Don’t have this stuff arrive one at a time at the house.  Half of the success of your gifts to her, come from how you present them.  In this case, have it shipped to your office, and take it home as a bundle.

Not Too Practical

I’ll never forget our first Christmas after we were married.  My husband bought me the following gifts: a can opener, a doormat and a toaster.  He meant well, and yes, we needed all of those things, but not as gifts for his true love!!!  Needless to say, he learned the tough lesson that gifts aren’t supposed to be practical.  He took it well, and for the most part, still applies that advice today.

Many of you may have fallen into that trap, buying things that you know she needs.  Key bit of advice here – don’t buy her practical household items for gifts.  She may need it, but she doesn’t need it as a gift from you.  She can go to the store and buy it on her own.

That is why, on LubDub.com, we don't have many practical items.  We do have some products for the home, but they are things that she wouldn't buy for herself.  We highlight the best of the best gifts for her kitchen, bath and other little luxuries.

Don't Forget the Card!

Picking the best gift for your wife or girlfriend is great, but don’t forget to get her a card too!  On many web sites, you can personalize the gift card that comes with the gift, but nothing beats an old fashioned greeting card with your written words in it.

Take a few minutes, stop by the corner drugstore, and buy her a card to give with the gift.  If you have time, you can even order those online here at Hallmark.com.  They have an especially good collection of birthday cards.  You can even have them personalize and mail the card for you.  I have mixed feelings about that, because it doesn't take any effort, and seems a bit impersonal.  But, we'll allow it every once in a while!

I’m not supposed to know, but my husband will buy 5 cards at a time, and save them in his drawer for when he needs them.  You can do that too – just don’t tell her about it.
